Why we love it: The National Retail Federation is the world’s largest retail trade association, and calls itself “the voice of retail.” The NRF is indeed one of the most active voices in the industry, and is a widely quoted authority on retail trends.
If you’re an executive working in retail, subscribing to the NRF’s SmartBrief newsletter is simply a requirement. What makes it a daily must-read? Pulling from top pubs like Business of Fashion, Modern Retail, WSJ and Bloomberg, the newsletter conveniently curates the most relevant news in retail every day, with well-written synopses that don’t require you to read the full article.
Each issue leads off with a top story, and also includes retail trends, technology and marketing news, and headline briefs. There’s always a featured job listing, and a thought-provoking quote at the end.
All together, it’s a highly relevant, scannable summary of what you need to know everyday to stay on top of the retail industry. Although it doesn’t offer much in the way of original content, it’s an excellent example of a curated industry news sheet. It’s not just a collection of NRF press releases, which would be useful to no one except maybe the NRF CMO 😆
